Objective: To determine if hyperemesis gravidarum is a risk factor for postpartum depression in the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo. Material and methods: A retrospective case-control study was carried out in which 132 puerperal registry records were included, according to selection criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: patients with postpartum depression and without postpartum depression; applying the odds ratio, and the chi square statistical test. Results: The frequency of the variables emergency delivery, pre-pregnancy obesity, unplanned pregnancy, great multiparity, was significantly higher in the group with postpartum depression than in the group without postpartum depression. The frequency of gravidarum hypermesis in patients with postpartum depression was 34%. The frequency of hyperemesis gravidarum in patients without postpartum depression was 14%. Hyalémesis gravidarum is a risk factor for postpartum depression with an odds ratio of 3.61, which was significant (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, the variables were identified: hyperemesis gravidarum, emergency delivery, pre-pregnancy obesity, unplanned pregnancy, great multiparity; as risk factors for postpartum depression. Conclusion: Hyperemesis gravidarum is a risk factor for postpartum depression in the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo.
