OBJECTIVE: To determine the risk factors associated with bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age at the Jorge Reátegui Delgado - Piura Hospital 2018 ““Methodology: Prospective, descriptive observational study of primary information source, of cases and controls in a ratio of 1: 1 , the sample was determined by all hospitalized children diagnosed with bronchiolitis whose parents / guardians agreed to participate in the study and who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, with a total of 52 children for the cases and 52 children for the controls. For the analysis, a database was used in the Excel 2010 program, and then it was transferred to STATA 10.0, software in which all the statistical analyzes were performed. RESULTS: The average age was 7.34 months for children with bronchiolitis and 6.84 months for those without bronchiolitis. The predominant sex was male in both cases. The majority of the children in both groups had a eutrophic nutritional status. Anemia was predominant in the group of patients who suffered from bronchiolitis. It was found that prematurity, low birth weight and anemia are associated with bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age. The factors of risk corresponding to the parents, no statistical significance was found therefore it is not associated with bronchiolitis, the environmental variables were found to have siblings at school age, smoking at home and housing with dirt floor were they are associated with bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age. Prematurity increases by 3.08 times, low birth weight by 4.9, and anemia by 3.08 the prevalence rate of bronchiolitis. The father or mother smokers increase by 1.45 times and 3.26 times, and the history of atopy increases by 1.9 times the prevalence rate of suffering from bronchiolitis in children under two years of age. In environmental factors it was found that having siblings of school age increased by 3.06 times, a family income low by 1.5 times and the history of smoking in the home 2.9 times the prevalence ratio bronchiolitis CONCLUSION: There are associated factors corresponding to children, the mother and environmental factors that are associated as risk factors for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years.
