To determine if anemia, hypoalbuminemia, the use of a central venous catheter and respiratory injury are risk factors for bacteremia in severely burned patients treated at the Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and method: An analytical study of cases and controls was carried out in which 96 severely burned patients were included, according to the selection criteria distributed according to the presence or absence of bacteremia, the chi square and the statistical odds ratio were calculated. Results: Anemia is a factor associated with bacteremia in severely burned patients with an odds ratio of 3.5, which was significant (p<0.05); hypoalbuminemia is a factor associated with bacteremia in severely burned patients with an odds ratio of 3.17, which was significant (p<0.05); the use of a central line is a factor associated with bacteremia in severely burned patients with an odds ratio of 5.64, which was significant (p<0.05). In relation to the intervening variables of age, sex, origin, leukocytosis, Hiperazoemia, no significant differences were observed (p>0.05). Unlike hyperglycemia, it was significantly higher in the group of patients with bacteremia compared to the group of patients without bacteremia (p<0.05). Conclusions: anemia, hypoalbuminemia, the use of a central venous catheter, and hyperglycemia are risk factors for bacteremia in severely burned patients treated at the Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
