Determine if obesity is a risk factor for the presentation of recurrent acute respiratory infections in children from 2 to 10 years of age, treated at the Albrecht Hospital, from 2014 to 2019. Material and methods: An Observational, retrospective, analytical, case-control study was carried out in which 148 pediatric patients treated at the Albrecht Hospital were included, using the selection criteria they were divided into 74 Cases (patients with more than 12 medical consultations per year for acute respiratory infections) and 74 Controls (patients with less than 12 medical consultations per year for acute respiratory infections). Results: The frequency of patients with recurrent acute respiratory infections who presented obesity was 66.2%, while those who did not present recurrent acute respiratory infections was 43.2%. Obtaining that obesity occurs 2.57 times higher in children with recurrent acute respiratory infections compared to those without this pathology (OR (95% CI): 2.57 (1.32 - 5.01)), which was statistically significant (p < 0.05), so it is considered a risk factor. Regarding the intervening variables such as sex, age, exclusive breastfeeding, neonatal macrosomia and obesity in parents, it was found that they are not associated with recurrent acute respiratory infections (p ˃ 0.05). Conclusion: Obesity is a risk factor for recurrent acute respiratory infections in children aged 2 to 10 years treated at the Albrecht Hospital.
