To determine the relationship between enamel development defects and body mass index in primary school children at IE Mariano Melgar, Trujillo – 2023. Material and Methods: The study was correlational, observational, and cross- sectional, involving 111 children aged 6 to 12 from IE Mariano Melgar, selected through systematic stratified sampling. A registration form with solid reliability and validity, a dental mirror, explorer, scale, and stadiometer were used. Data collection included an evaluation of the children's teeth to identify enamel development defects (DDE) and their body mass index (BMI). The BMI was calculated by measuring the children's weight in kilograms and their height, then dividing the weight by the square of their height (BMI = weight / height²). The correlation was analyzed using Spearman's Rho statistical test. Results: The results show a significant positive correlation between body mass index (BMI) and enamel development defects, including the two dimensions of the variable (hypoplasia and hypomineralization) in the sample of 111 participants, with coefficients of .743, .676, and .268 respectively (p<.000). Conclusions: As BMI increases, the levels of general DDE, hypoplasia, and hypomineralization also tend to increase. Thus, diet and BMI play an important role in oral health and enamel development in these individuals.
