Internal of medicine are subjected to stress and night shifts that exceed the recommended hours of work. This generates alterations in the organism and the lack of sleep that can lead to non-compliance with tasks. AIM. To determine the characteristics of sleep quality and the degree of sleepiness during the day, in the inmates of human medicine in Piura. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Descriptive study, cross-sectional to all internal of three hospitals in the province of Piura, to whom the Pittsburgh test was applied and the Epwort scale whose results were processed in SPSS V.24.0. RESULTS 11.7% of our participants have no problem sleeping; 46.8% have mild to moderate sleep problems and only merit medical advice, while 41.4% have severe problems sleeping and not only need medical attention, but also medical treatment. 32.1% of our inmates maintain an undisturbed level of sleepiness; 41.1% have a moderately increased daytime sleepiness and 26.8% have an excessive degree of drowsiness. CONCLUSIONS 55.39% of our inmates are female and the total average age is 24 years. The services where the interns stay more hours a day are Surgery and Pediatrics. The highest percentage of inmates have trouble sleeping is the Jorge Reátegui Hospital. The service where inmates have worse sleep quality is in pediatrics. Regarding being sleepy during the day, the medical service is where most inmates claim to have excessive sleepiness.
