OBJECTIVE: To analyze whether dermatological problems such as blistering processes, dry skin, hives, excoriation, erythema and excessive sweating are associated with the use of personal protective equipment, in health personnel in hospitals in Piura 2021. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Observational, analytical, cross-sectional, prospective study with primary data collection through a self-administered survey and with sampling from members of the health personnel belonging to the hospitals of Piura with a significance of p<0.05 for the corresponding variables. RESULTS: The analysis showed a distribution between men (48.33%) and women (51.67%), with a mean age of 48.37. The medical profession represented 26.00%, nursing graduates (30.67%) and nursing technicians (21.33%). Regarding the location of the hospital, a third worked in José Cayetano Heredia, a third in Jorge Reategui and finally a third in the Santa Rosa hospital. Statistical significance was observed for variables such as sex (p=0.04), age (p=0.04) and profession (p=0.02). Regarding the work area, 34.67% worked in hospitalization, and the majority used PPE for 11 to 12 hours a day. Dermatological problems affected a considerable percentage of the staff, with statistical significance for dry skin, blisters, erythema and excoriations (p<=0.05). In addition, associations were identified between variables such as female sex, age over 45 years, nursing profession, specific work areas such as hospitalization and intensive care and prolonged use of PPE with adjusted relative risks (Rpa) between 1.56 and 3.54 (CI: 1.11 -4.12). CONCLUSION: Dermatological problems are associated with the use of personal protective equipment in healthcare personnel in Piura hospitals in 2021
