Objective: To determine whether self-medication is the most frequent predisposing factor for recurrent urinary tract infection in adult women in Bajo Piura in 2020. Methods: A case-control study was carried out, 73 female patients diagnosed with recurrent urinary tract infection with positive urine culture were included, who received care at the I-4 La Unión Health Center, from January to December 2020 to In all cases, a univariate analysis was carried out, evaluating frequencies and percentages for the categorical variables and means and medians for the quantitative variables, the normal distribution of the variables was analyzed and in the bivariate analysis a non-parametric test was used for the variables with nonnormal distribution. Results: Of a total of 144 patients included in the study, 72 cases and 72 controls were obtained. The prevalence of self-medication in the case group was 87% (sometimes 51.4% and always 36.1%). When analyzing the risk of recurrent UTI, it was found that women with self-medication with a scale of 15-20 points (Sometimes) present a 4.6 times higher risk (OR 4.642, 95% CI: 1.936-11.126) and those women with self-medication of 25-30 points (Always) increase the risk 16 times (OR 16.852 IC95%: 5.331-53.269) Conclusions: Three out of ten women with recurrent UTI always resort to selfmedication, and do not fully adhere to established medical treatment.
