OBJECTIVE: To compare the functional recovery of patients with acromioclavicular dislocation treated with the techniques of Four Sutures and Modified Phemister. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An observational retrospective cohort study was performed, reviewing clinical records of patients with a diagnosis of Rockwood III - VI acromioclavicular dislocation, at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital and surgical treatment of 12 patients with the Four Sutures technique and 23 with Modified Phemister. Then the Quick DASH questionnaire was applied in a scheduled personal interview. Functional recovery was estimated according to the degree of disability, late morbidity and time of work incapacity. RESULTS: The degree of disability is significantly higher in the group of patients treated with the modified Phemister technique with an average score of the Quick DASH score of 79.15 ± 13.90 over 31.44 ± 9.92 of four sutures at six months of his surgical intervention; (p = 0.001). The average disability time was 67.50 ± 11.96 and 197.39 ± 43.61 days in the patients treated with the technique Four Sutures and Modified Phemister respectively; (p = 0.001). The frequencies of late morbidity were 50.0 % and 91.3 % in patients treated with the techniques of Four Sutures and Modified Phemister, respectively; (p = 0.006). CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with the Four Sutures technique presented better results than Modified Phemister for the functional recovery of acromioclavicular dislocations.
