Aiming to study the efficacy of fistulization with Foley catheter vs carnival balloon in the treatment of Bartolino's abscess. A descriptive analytical study of therapeutic tests was carried out. The object of study was the favorable responses and complications of the treatment of 44 patients with Bartolino's abscess who were treated in the emergency of Belen de Trujillo hospital and the Peruvian-German medical center, between January 2008 and May 2017. Protocols were registered two groups were made up of group I: treated with Foley catheter and group II treated with a carnival balloon. In both groups, the percentage of successes and recurrences was determined; the proportion of discomfort, degree of difficulty, cost of the procedure and the time of permanence of the fistulizing material. The results were analyzed by the binary regression method with SPSS.22. 44 cases were admitted to the study, 22 were fistulized with Foley catheter and 22 with a carnival balloon; a 6.82% relapse rate was found in the group treated with Foley catheter and 5% in the group treated with Carnival Globe; 36% of patients treated with Foley catheter presents moderate discomfort and 0% severe discomfort in the postoperative period, compared to 15% of moderate discomfort in group treated with carnival balloon; 25% of cases treated with a carnival balloon had a balloon stay time longer than 26 days, compared to 18.8% treated with Foley. Noting that the shorter the time of stay, the higher the proportion of relapses with OR of 1.9 P>0.05. It is concluded that both methods showed to be useful for the treatment of Bartolino's abscess, but the carnival balloon showed less discomfort and lower cost.
