calcificación mayor a 10 milímetros, lesión calcificada y serología positiva
OR=2.8(IC 95% 1.6 – 5.1), calcificación mayor a 10 milímetros OR=2.6(IC
95%1.4 – 4.9), lesión calcificada OR=3.4(IC 95% 1.8 – 7.1) y serología
positiva OR=3.2 (IC 95% 1.7 – 6.6).
To determine if in patients with neurocysticercosis, there are factors that increase the risk of epilepsy in patients at Hospital Belén de Trujillo during the years 2016 - 2021. Material and methods: An analytical, case-control, retrospective study was carried out in which 196 patients diagnosed with neurocysticercosis were included, according to selection criteria, in two groups with o without epilepsy; calculated the chi square and odds ratio. Results: There were no significant differences in the average age or in the frequency of gender, high body mass index and diabetes mellitus between patients with or without epilepsy, the frequencies of perilesional edema, calcification greater than 10 millimeters, calcified lesion, serology positive were significantly higher in the group with epilepsy than in the group without epilepsy (p<0.05), In the multivariate analysis, the risk factors for epilepsy in patients with neurocysticercosis were perilesional edema OR=2.8 (95% CI 1.6 – 5.1), calcification greater than 10 millimeters OR=2.6 (95% CI 1.4 – 4.9), calcified lesion OR= 3.4 (95% CI 1.8 – 7.1) and positive serology OR=3.2 (95% CI 1.7 – 6.6). Conclusion: the risk factors for epilepsy in patients with neurocysticercosis were perilesional edema, calcification greater than 10 millimeters, calcified lesion and positive serology.
