Objective: To establish if Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a risk factor for Internet Addiction in children and adolescents. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective case and controls study was carried out. The study sample consisted of 137 patients; which were divided into two groups: 45 with Internet Addiction and 92 without and the OR and chi square test were calculated. Results: The frequency of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in patients with Internet Addiction and without Internet Addiction was 69% and 32% respectively. (OR 4.81; IC95% 2.229 - 10.381; p=0.0001). The multivariate analysis through logistic regression identified that the age group was the patients who presented the range of 12 and 17 years; likewise, it was found that Family Dysfunction was associated with the presence of Internet Addiction. (OR 1.502; IC95% 0.637 - 2.661; p=0.031) Conclusions: The study conclude that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a risk factor for Internet Addiction in children and adolescents. The variables with the greatest significance were the age and family dysfunction.
