Objective: To determine whether Kiewiet-Van Ruler model factors are associated with indication for relaparotomy in patients diagnosed with secondary peritonitis. Material and methods: An observational, cross-sectional, analytical study was carried out. The study population consisted of those patients with a diagnosis of secondary peritonitis who had a first intervention and/or were relaparatomized in the general surgery service of the Hospital Belén de Trujillo in the period 2013- 2022 who met the established inclusion criteria, of which, 90 patients were studied according to selection criteria in which the association of the factors of the Kiewiet Van Ruler model with the indication of relaparotomies was studied by calculating chi-square with a p-value <5% (0. 05), in addition, a multivariate analysis was performed by logistic regression of each variable under study using the Wald statistic. Results: Statistical analysis of each factor of the Kiewiet Van Ruler model, it was demonstrated that the use of vasopressor amines, anemia, tachycardia, lack of evacuation, diffuse peritonitis are associated with the indication for relaparotomy in patients with secondary peritonitis (p<0. 05); on the other hand, in the multivariate analysis by logistic regression it was demonstrated and corroborated that the aforementioned factors of the Kiewiet Van Ruler model are factors associated with indication for relaparotomy in patients with secondary peritonitis (p<0.05). No significant differences were observed with respect to the variables age, gender or diabetes mellitus between patients with secondary peritonitis with or without indication for relaparotomy (p>0.05). Conclusion: Kiewiet-Van Ruler model factors have association with relaparotomy indication in patients with secondary peritonitis in Hospital Belén de Trujillo 2013-2022
