The presence of integrons in the bacterial genome can contribute to the increase of multiresistant bacteria. The main objective of this study is to analyze the association between class 1 and 2 integrons with multiresistance. Material and Methods: For this purpose, 35 samples of P. aeruginosa provided by the Hospital Belén de Trujillo were used, which underwent their respective phenotypic and genotypic verification, susceptibility test by disk diffusion method, DNA extraction and finally the detection of the genes: IntI1, IntI2, by means of PCR. Results: Of the 35 P. aeruginosa strains, 24 (68.6%) were MDR. IntI1 was detected in 51.4%; and 68,6% corresponded to the MDR group. Significant correlations were identified between: IntI1 and resistance to ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, meropenem, imipenem, tobramycin, gentamicin, piperacillin, and aztreonam. Conclusions: The intl1 prevailed in the MDR group and seems to play an important role in the dissemination of multidrug resistance genes, so they could be used as markers for the identification of MDR isolates and thus perform molecular surveillance programs to choose appropriate therapy and management of infection control practices.
