Objective: Determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and cariogenic risk in children aged 5 and 6 years from 6 private educational institutions Trujillo, 2023. Materials and Methods: This study was observational and cross-sectional. 140 children aged 5 and 6 years were evaluated. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data, with a Kappa level of agreement of 0.991. A pilot study was carried out, with Reliability being 0.934 for BMI and for cariogenic risk it was 0.934. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were applied to relate the variables with a value of p < 0.05. Results: It was found that children aged 5 and 6 years had 64% of normal BMI, as well as a moderate cariogenic risk, finding a statistically significant relationship (p < 0.5). According to gender, it was found that male children had a normal BMI and a low cariogenic risk of 7%; and women with normal BMI presented moderate cariogenic risk that was 35%, statistical significance was found (p < 0.5). According to age, 5-year-old schoolchildren had normal BMI and low cariogenic risk with 7%, finding statistical significance. (p<0.05) Conclusion: There is a relationship between body mass index (BMI) and cariogenic risk in schoolchildren from 6 private educational institutions Trujillo, 2023
