Objective: To determine the association between prolonged use of inhaled corticosteroids and short stature. Method: An analytical, observational, retrospective case-control study was applied. Whose sample was 267 patients from 6 to 12 years divided into: 178 controls and 89 cases selected through a non-probabilistic sampling that was carried out with the predetermined criteria. We worked with data from computerized medical records of the Albrecht Hospital in Trujillo for the year 2019. The data was processed in STATA 15.1. Results: The frequency of children with asthma and short stature in relation to the use of Beclomethasone Dipropionate for more than 3 months was 66.63%, compared to children with asthma and normal height that had 31.37%. A statistically significant association was found in the multivariate analysis between the time of exposure to inhaled corticosteroids and short stature with asthma, adjusted for age, sex, corticosteroid dose (OR=5.96 and 95% CI: 3.82-9.30, p value <0.001). Conclusions: Long-term use of beclomethasone dipropionate is a risk factor for short stature in children with asthma.
