Objective: To analyze whether epilepsy is a risk factor for developing migraine in women of reproductive age at Hospital III-1 EsSalud José Cayetano Heredia in Piura between 2017 and 2020. Material and methods: Analytical study, cases and controls. Authorization was requested from the Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia de Piura to the Medicine (neurology) service for access to the clinical history of the population included in the present investigation. The necessary information was consigned, and it was recorded in the previously prepared variable compilation document consigned for the study. Subsequently, this information was processed using the Microsoft Excel 2016 program, to then calculate the odds ratio (OR) of the risk factor under study among the qualitative variables, with a 95% confidence interval. Results: There were 144 participants. The average age was 31.88 and 31.83 years for the cases and controls. 72 records of patients diagnosed with epilepsy were obtained, of which 33 of them (45.83%) used combined oral contraceptives; 31 records had a history of tobacco use, 16 records with a history of alcohol use, 44 records for fat consumption, and 24 records used emergency oral contraceptives. A significant association was found between the presence of migraine in patients with a previous record of epilepsy (p:0.034, OR:2.14, CI: 0.02-0.56). Conclusion: Epilepsy is a risk factor for migraine in women of reproductive age.
