Objective: To determine the association of lymphocyte neutrophil index as a predictive value of neurological deterioration of ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke in Cayetano Heredia 2018 hospital. Methods: A descriptive, prospective, correlational, cross-sectional study of primary information source was performed. New and recurrent patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke attended in the hospitalization service of the Hospital José Cayetano were included. Neurological functional impairment was measured using the Rankin scale. Data analysis was performed using SSPS 20; for all hypothesis tests a significance level of 5% (p<0.05) and a 95% confidence interval will be used. Results: A total of 104 patients were studied, being primarily male and mostly over 50 years of age. An association was found for a neutrophil/lymphocyte index level greater than or equal to 5 and neurological functional impairment, in the case of patients with hemorrhagic stroke it was associated with an RP of 3,3 (IC95%: 1,2 – 9,1; p=0,023) and in the case of patients with ischemic stroke it was associated with an RP of 1,7 (IC95%: 1,2 – 2,4; p=0,001). Conclusions: The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio is significantly related to the development of significant neurological functional impairment in patients, and is an easily accessible and inexpensive test.
