To determine if there is a relationship between depression and the control of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) parameters in type 2 diabetic patients who attend regular check-ups. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Cross-sectional, analytical, observational study; performed in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus, treated in the offices of the Adult Cardiometabolic Clinical Unit (UCCAME) and in the outpatient clinic corresponding to Internal Medicine of Hospital I – Florencia de Mora - EsSalud, who met the inclusion criteria, from October 2023 and March 2024; with a total sample of 216 diabetic patients after convenience sampling. The information was collected using a data collection form designed for this study for subsequent statistical analysis where the Chi Square test was applied for qualitative data and in the same way for association between quantitative data the Student’s t test was used. RESULTS: In the present study, a significant relationship was found between depression and poor control of glycosylated hemoglobin parameters (>7%) in diabetic patients with a prevalence ratio of 3.24 (p<0.001). A high prevalence of 92.1% was also evident in diabetic patients with depression associated with poor control of HbA1c parameters. Diabetic patients without depression showed a prevalence of 28.4% with poor HbA1c control. The intervening variables associated with depression were marital status (p=0.015) and place of origin (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: Depression is associated with poor control of glycosylated hemoglobin parameters in type 2 diabetic patients.
