Objective: Demonstrate that the low-birthweight term is a risk factor of myopia in adolescents treated at Chota in Jose Hernan Soto Cadenilla Hospital of Cajamarca between the years from 2014 to 2018. Material and methods: Applied design of cases and controls, applied in 279 patients with myopia and 558 without myopia. Medical records were reviewed. Results: The low weight at birth was present at the 16.1% of adolescents with myopia, and 10.2% without myopia, with no statistical difference (p = 0.01), with OR = 1 69 95% CI 1.11-2.59. Age had an average of 13.9 + 2 years in the myopic and 14.1 + 1 8 years are not short-sighted (p = 0.213), the male sex in adolescents was 56.6%, and not short-sighted 54.3%, no statistical differences (p = 0.523). The degree of primary instruction in non-myopic was 84.1% and myopic 77.8%, no statistical differences (p = 0.074). The student occupation predominated, with 83.2% in myopic and 84.9% without myopia, no statistical differences (p = 0.091). The urban source this was present in 67% of myopic and 60% of non-myopic found statistical differences (p = 0.049) with OR = 1 35 95% CI 1.01-1.83. Conclusions: The proportion of low-birthweight term in adolescents with myopia was higher than in adolescents without myopia, constituting the low weight at birth risk factor to myopia. While the covariable urban origin was associated with the presence of myopia, while the covariates age, male sex and grade of primary education not this association
