Objective: To determine if exclusive breastfeeding (SML) is protective factor of anemia in infants under 4 months Materials and methods: Observational, analytical, longitudinal study plan, retrospective cohort type, to determine if breastfeeding is exclusively protective of anemia in infants under 4 months old in EsSalud III Hospital in Iquitos. They met with mothers of 120 children; to which hemoglobin can be determined in the fourth month of life, and those who received exclusive breastfeeding (60) and those who did not receive exclusive breastfeeding were divided into 2 groups (60). SPSS version 23, bivariate analysis was calculated Relative Risk and significance was obtained with Pearson's Chi-square test. Results: group of foods with exclusive breastfeeding 8 children (13.33%) developed anemia and those who did not receive exclusive breastfeeding 17 children (28.33%) developed anemia. The bivariate analysis of the variables under study ᵡ² = 4.0926; p = 0.0431; RR = 0.47; I. C. 99% (0.22 - 1.00) allow a treatment of anemia factor in infants younger than 4 months in EsSalud III Hospital in Iquitos. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding is a protective factor of anemia in infants younger than 4 months in the Hospital EsSalud III of Iquitos.
