Demonstrate that 2% lidocaine gel has greater anesthetic efficacy in controlling pain level, measured with the E.V.A. scale, compared to injectable 2% lidocaine in chalazion surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An applicative, analytical, longitudinal, prospective study of a simple blind clinical trial was carried out. The population consisted of 70 patients, who were treated at the Oftalmocenter clinic, from August 2017 to December 2018; which was divided into 2 groups: chalazion operated with lidocaine 2% gel and operated with 2% injectable lidocaine, measuring the anesthetic efficacy with the scale of E.V.A. and if there were any complications at the time of surgery; The Mann-Whitney test was used to test the hypothesis. RESULTS: The average age in the groups was 32.77 ± 15.09 for patients undergoing chalazion surgery where the anesthetic used was 2% lidocaine injection while 36.60 ± 15.92 for lidocaine 2% gel (p = 0.306); the proportion of males for each group was 34.3% and 45.7%, while for women it was 65.7% and 54.3% (p = 0.336); the proportions of arterial hypertension were 2.86% and 8.57% (p = 0.303), the proportions of diabetes mellitus were 2.86% both groups (p = 1.000); the proportion of complications was 0% in both groups (p = 0.000). The distribution of pain perception, where injectable 2% lidocaine was used, was 2,543 ± 1,120, while 4,343 ± 1,083 for lidocaine at 2% gel; which concludes that with lidocaine at 2% gel, higher pain levels were obtained than with injectable 2% lidocaine in chalazion surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Injectable 2% lidocaine is more effective in control of pain level than 2% lidocaine gel as an anesthetic in chalazion surgery.
