To determine the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) undergoing conventional surgery versus transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), in the Urology service of the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital, Belén de Trujillo Hospital and Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. Materials and Methods: It´s a cohort, observational, analytical and retrospective study. Medical records of the year 2019 were reviewed, using the data collection form as an instrument, designed by the researcher, where creatinine was compared before and after surgery, to determine the presence of AKI. The population consisted of 486 medical records, of which those that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were reviewed. The exposed sample (patients undergoing TURP) is made up of 168 and the non-exposed sample (patients undergoing open surgery) is made up of 116; In total, a sample of 284 users of the mentioned context was needed. The results will be presented through cross tables. Results: Regarding the comparison between types of interventions in benign prostatic hyperplasia, in conventional surgery, 10.3% of all cases have presented acute kidney injury, however, in the TURP intervention, 11.3% of all cases have presented it. Conclusions: It´s concluded that the comparison gap is 1% between the two types of surgical intervention, identifying that when TURP is developed, the patient is more likely to present acute kidney injury.
