Mortality from community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) occurs mostly in people who are hospitalized, so different care is provided to avoid death. The hospital acute kidney injury (iAKI) is a condition that often complicate hospitalized patients. Objective: Demonstrate that iAKi is associated with mortality in patients hospitalized for CAP at the Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray (HVLE). Method: Case-control study in which 104 medical histories of patients admitted for CAP were reviewed between 2015 and 2018, divided into two groups of the same number, according to mortality 30 days after hospitalization in the area of internal medicine or pneumology and in those who looked for a baseline creatinine value and another within 7 days of hospitalization to determine whether or not they had presented iAKI during hospitalization. The Odds Ratio (OR) was calculated for the association analysis and logistic regression was applied for the intervening variables. Results: 48% of the deceased patients had presented iAKI, while the control group had only 19% iAKI, this association was maintained after performing the multivariate analysis, showing that iAKI is independently associated with mortality from CAP (aOR: 3.54, p=0.009). Conclusion: The iAKI that occurs during hospitalization is associated with mortality in patients admitted for CAP.
