INTRODUCTION: The severity of the disease in patients with Guillain Barré Syndrome who were seen at the hospital is considered as a public health issue and its measurement is achieved by consensus with Hughes scale. OBJECTIVE: Determine the prediction of the Guillain Barré Syndrome on mortality of patients seen at the hospital, using Hughes scale. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective cohort study with sample size of 52 patients was performed. The severity of the disease was determined by Hughes scale. A 30 day follow up was performed to determine the prediction on mortality. Analytical and descriptive statistics were established. RESULTS: From 52 patients, 20 had high illness severity. In the bivariate analysis oxygen necessity, orotracheal intubation, mechanic ventilation and pneumonia were statistically significant. In order to evaluate relationship between mortality and severity of the disease, chi square was applied which turned out non-significant (p=0.118>0.05). Nevertheless, RR was 4.8 with CI: 0.527-56.746. CONCLUSION: Severity of the disease determined through Hughes scale would not have an effect on mortality
