To determine whether Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a factor associated with ischemic stroke (IS) in patients of the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Analytical, observational, retrospective study of cases and controls that included 206 patients (103 cases and 103 controls) selected, by inclusion and exclusion criteria, randomly from the 2014 - 2018 period. Univariate analysis was performed, to The quantitative variables were used measures of central tendency and dispersion; In addition, absolute and relative frequency distribution was used for categorical variables. The bivariate analysis was performed, the quantitative data were compared between both groups by the Student t test, admitting a significant difference if p <0.05 and Pearson's Chi was used in the qualitative data; Finally, the binary logistic regression model was used for the multivariate analysis with the enter method and the factors that had association in the bivariate analysis in addition to those that presented a significant theoretical value were added to this model. RESULTS: The male sex corresponded to 59.41% (60) of the cases and 45.54% (46) of the controls (p = 0.0486). The average age in the case group was 72.98 years (SD: 10.66 years) and controls 73.73 years (SD: 7.48 years). The factors associated with ischemic stroke were: Atrial Fibrillation (OR 6,104, 95% CI 1,93319,278; p = 0.002), Hypertension (OR 3,373, 95% CI 1,784-6,375; p = 0.000), Dyslipidemia (OR 2,379, IC95 % 1,125-5,032; p = 0.023). The variables Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and Male sex did not show significant statistical difference after multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is not a factor associated with ischemic stroke. The factors associated with ischemic stroke were, atrial fibrillation, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia.
