Objective: To determine the epidemiological, clinical and surgical characteristics of patients intervened by Transumbilical Appendectomy in Santa Rosa II-2 Hospital between 2017-2019. Methodology: An observational, retrospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed. The study included 70 patients operated by Transumbilical Appendectomy and attended in the general surgery service of Santa Rosa II-2 Hospital between 2017-2019. Results: The patients studied were predominantly women (61.4%) with an average age of 20.3 years. Secondary education and urban background were the most frequent. The main signs and symptoms were pain in CID (100%), nausea or vomiting (85.7%), hyporexia (84.3%), McBurney’s Sign (100%) and Blumberg’s Sign (64.3%). Leukocytosis (90%) and neutrophilia (87.1%) were predominant. The mean operating time was 52.36 minutes, 15.7% of cases were complicated appendicitis, in which the purulent (41.4%) and gangrenous (28.6%) stage predominated. Intraoperative (1.4%) and postoperative complications were minimal (2.8%). The average hospital stay was 2.19 days and postoperative pain was mild or absent (95.7%). Conclusion: It is observed that transumbilical appendectomy turns out to be an option in early and advanced stages, presenting minimal complications, less postoperative pain and hospital stays that resemble those already described in the conventional technique.
