INTRODUCTION: The world is currently going through a major health crisis due to SARS-COV2 or coronavirus (COVID-19), which represents a major public health problem worldwide; In Peru, the state of emergency was established on March 15, 2020, considering health protection a priority. OBJECTIVE - Study the association between Mental Health Status with the quality and use of digital media due to social distancing due to Coronavirus in higher education students Piura 2020. MATERIAL AND METHOD: An observational, analytical-cross-sectional, prospective study with primary data collection by means of a simple random virtual questionnaire with a sample of 630 participants. RESULTS: We found that in terms of mild altered mental health variables such as age range between 18 to 20 years (p: 0.3 CI: 0.001 - 0.045), 21 to 25 years (p: 0.4 CI: 0.001 - 0.065) and 26 at 30 years (p: 0.5 CI: 0.001 - 0.056) will find a significant association; Significant association for Mild levels with the use of Smartphone (p: 0.03 IC: 0.001 - 0.56) if as Laptop / PC (p: 0.04 IC: 0.001 - 0.65) and finally with use of Television (p: 0.049 IC: 0.001 - 0.56 ) in terms of severe moderate ranges, we found significance for the use of Smartphone (p: 0.046 CI: 0.001 - 0.98) and internet (p: 0.036 CI: 0.001 - 0.98) respectively. CONCLUSION: There is an association between the use of digital media and mental health in university students of the City of Piura during the year 2020.
