INTRODUCTION: The cesarean section rate has shown a notable increase in recent years, as well as an increase in post-procedural complications. Infection of the operative site is the complication that presents the highest morbidity in postpartum women, presenting an average of 6% as an important reason for prolonged hospital stay, producing an increase in the demand for medical care expenses. OBJECTIVES: Precision of risk factors of infection in the workplace in the Department of Gynecology of Hospital de Apoyo II-2 of Sullana. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An analytical, retrospective, observational, case and control study was conducted. A sample of 50 patients is shown for the cases and 150 for the controls. During January 01, 2015 to December 31, 2018. We compared the sociodemographic, gyneco-obstetric characteristics of the patients as well as the characteristics of the cesarean section to be able to identify the risk factors for acquiring post-cesarean SSI. For the analysis of qualitative variables the frequency is used, for the quantitative variables the average and the standard deviation are used, for the inferential statistical analysis the Chi square test is applied. RESULTS: 50% of the cases presented 24 years of age, 70% lived together, 54% presented complete secondary education and 52% belonged to urban areas. No significant association was found with these variables. 48% of cases were multiparous, 88% had 4 or more vaginal strokes OR 4.2 (CI: 2.2-8.898), 26% presented obesity obesidad OR= 9,555 (IC 4.100 - 21.558), 16% presented Prolonged RPM OR = 4,380 (IC 1,289 -14,351). 88% of cases presented emergency cesarean section OR 6.4 (CI 3.2-12.1254), 88% did not use antibiotic prophylaxis OR 0.422 (CI 0.223-0.812), 74% presented a surgical time of 31 to 50 min. CONCLUSION: Both obesity, type of cesarean section, prolonged PROM and performing 4 more vaginal strokes during labor are risk factors for post- cesarean site infection. The variables sociodemographic characteristics, chorioamnionitis and prolonged surgical time with post-cesarean SSI development did not show a significant association.
