To determine if pure hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor for rotator cuff syndrome in patients who are treated at the I EsSalud La Esperanza Hospital. Material and methods: An analytical, retrospective, case-control study was carried out in which 93 patients were included according to selection criteria, who were divided into 2 groups: with or without rotator cuff syndrome; applying the odds ratio, and the Chi-square statistical test. Results: The frequency of diabetes mellitus and hypertriglyceridemia were significantly higher in the group of patients with rotator cuff syndrome (p<0.05), the frequency of pure hypercholesterolemia in patients with rotator cuff syndrome was 71%, the frequency of hypercholesterolemia pure in patients without rotator cuff syndrome was 32%, hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor for rotator cuff syndrome with an odds ratio of 5.13 which was significant (p<0.05), in the multivariate analysis the variables are recognized diabetes mellitus, hypertriglyceridemia and pure hypercholesterolemia as risk factors for rotator cuff syndrome. Conclusion: pure hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor for rotator cuff syndrome in patients who are treated at the I EsSalud La Esperanza Hospital. (Level of evidence II. 2).
