Objective: To determine whether low body mass index is a risk factor for Endometriosis in patients of the Gynecology Department of the Alta Complejidad ''Virgen de la Puerta Essalud''-La Libertad Hospital. Methods: Retrospective, observational, case-control study. The population consisted of patients aged 20-55 years from the Gynecology Department and the sample consisted of 63 patients with Endometriosis and 63 patients without Endometriosis. This study is constituted by clinical history data such as body mass index (BMI) of each patient and meeting inclusion criteria for cases and controls. In the statistical analysis the Odds ratio presentation and its 95% confidence interval were applied and as a complement the t- Student significance test was used to identify differences in the anthropometric variables between cases and controls. Results: There was a higher percentage of women with low BMI (71.4%) compared to women without endometriosis (49.2%), showing a statistically significant association (X2=6.50; p<.05) between low BMI and endometriosis, so that patients with low BMI have a 2.58 (95%CI:1.24 - 5.39) times higher risk of presenting endometriosis than women with normal or high BMI. Conclusion: Low body mass index is a risk factor for endometriosis in women in the Gynecology Department of the Alta Complejidad Hospital.
