The research work has been prepared in order to measure the effect of foreign investment on the economic development of the countries of the Pacific Alliance during the period 2005-2019. The theory used in this research is the Human Development Index (HDI), which suggests that foreign direct investment influences economic development. To corroborate this and in line with the general objective, a random effects model with 45 observations was used, taking the human development index of the Pacific Alliance countries as the dependent variable and foreign direct investment as the explanatory variable. To carry out the econometric model, a series of historical data was used from the central banks of the member countries of the Pacific Alliance, the World Bank, the INE in Chile, DANE in Colombia and INEI in Peru. The results show that foreign investment has a positive effect on the economic development of the Pacific Alliance countries, in such a way that for every 1% increase in foreign investment (FDI), the Human Development Index (proxy variable of economic development) increased by 2.35 points. This allows us to affirm that the more FDI, the more economic development
