OBJECTIVES: To determine whether being obese is a risk factor for developing urinary tract infection in children younger than 5. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Through a design: Observational, analytical of cases and controls, in reviewed the medical histories of 180 children, divided into 2 groups with (cases) and without (controls) with and without Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), hospitalized in the Pediatrics Service of the IV Hospital “Víctor Lazarte Echegaray“ of Essalud - Trujillo in the period 2010 – 2020 RESULTS: 180 children were studied in 2 groups, 90 with UTI and 90 without UTI, with an average age of 3.12 and 62.1% female, the prevalence of obesity was 23.3% in the group with UTI and 13.3% in the group without UTI, the OR being 1.98 with a 95% confidence interval (0.91 - 4.31) not significant p=0.06. Multinomial logistic regression adjusted OR of obesity as a risk factor for UTI is 2.23 with a 95% confidence interval (0.93 – 2.23). Only the presence of positive C-reactive protein has a significant influence with an OR of 2.039 (1.01 - 4.12) p=0.047. CONCLUSIONS: The presence of obesity in children under 5 years of age is not a risk factor for urinary tract infection; However, with positive C-reactive protein this risk significantly increases
