This research evaluated the relationship between public investment in infrastructure and rural economic development in La Libertad in the period 2008- 2019, using the Human Development Index as a measure for economic development in districts classified as rural according to the MTC; In addition, the hypothesis that was raised is that public investment in infrastructure has had an economically significant and positive relationship with rural economic development in La Libertad in the period 2008-2019. Annual continuity data were used for the analysis, with a 12-year sample from 12 rural districts that are: Ongón, Bambamarca, Condomarca, Bolivar, Longotea, Uchumarca, Ucuncha, La Cuesta, Paranday, Sinsicap, Mollebamba and Mollepata. To test the hypothesis, the panel data method was used. As results of the econometric estimation with the estimator model created by Driscoll and Kray with fixed effects, it was shown that the main hypothesis is rejected, since public investment in infrastructure in agriculture, energy andhealth have an indirect relationship with the HDI during the period 2008-2019; however, public investment in transportation, sanitation, and education infrastructure has a positive impact on the dependent variable. Being the education sector the variable that showed the greatest impact, giving as a resultthat for every million soles invested, the Human Development Index increases by 0.011 and therefore increases rural economic development.
