Objective: Determine what extreme maternal age is a risk factor for intrauterine growth restriction Method: An observational, analytical, retrospective case-control study was carried out, with a population of pregnant women of 146 patients, divided into two groups: 73 pregnant women with intrauterine growth restriction and 73 pregnant women without the pathology who were treated in the gynecology area of the Hospital Belén de Trujillo in the period 2012-2018 Results: The association between extreme maternal age and intrauterine growth restriction was related (OR: 2.34; p <0.016; CI = 95% 1.17 - 4.71). The proportion of extreme maternal age and intrauterine growth restriction was 33 pregnant women (45.2%). The proportion of intrauterine growth restriction in pregnant women with adolescent maternal age was 18 pregnant women (24.7%) and the proportion of intrauterine growth restriction in pregnant women with advanced maternal age was 16 pregnant women (21.9%). The variables of sex of the fetus, deeds, parity, anemia, multiple pregnancy, eclampsia had no significance, while preclampsia was the variable of greatest significance (p <0.05) with a p = 0.05. Conclusion: Extreme maternal age is a significant risk factor for intrauterine growth restriction.
