To determine the factors associated with mortality in adults with differentiated thyroid cancer at the Cayetano Heredia hospital 2015 - 2016 Material and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was developed, due to the review of the medical records of adult patients with differentiated thyroid cancer at the Cayetano Heredia hospital, Piura. Using a biostatistical criterion (p <0.05 statistically significant) for the analysis between variables and the mortality outcome, significant associations were found with the covariates, ages (Mann-Whitney U test, p = 0.0006), service of origin (Fisher's exact test, p = 0.035) and type of surgery (Fisher's exact test, p = 0.046). Results: 111 patients were obtained who were classified into 2 subgroups in relation to the Mortality variable, whose prevalence was 0.24%. Of those who died, 81.48% (n = 22) were female and the median age was 61 years. Regarding mortality and the type of surgery, 40.74% (n = 11) of the deceased underwent a hemithyroidectomy, and 22.22% (n = 6) a total thyroidectomy Conclusions: Statistical significance was found for age and extended total thyroidectomy: in those patients with thyroid cancer, mortality increased as the mean age increased by 1.04; similarly, those who underwent an extended total thyroidectomy increased their mortality 2.47 times compared to those who underwent a hemithyroidectomy
