Aim: To determine the risk factors for developing vesicular lithiasis and choledochal lithiasis at Hospital III Esalud “José Cayetano Heredia“. Material and methods: An analytical, cross-sectional, prospective study of unpaired cases and controls was conducted. A total of 72 patients with vesicular and bile duct pathology were studied in the surgery department of the general surgery service of the Hospital III Esalud “José Cayetano Heredia“. A univariate and bivariate analysis was performed. Results: We studied a total of 72 cases unpaired. Female (OR 2.26; IC 95% 1.64-2.45; p=0.006), comorbidities (OR 5.93; IC 95% 2.85-12.33), the presence of harmful habits (OR 2.78; IC 95% 1.41-5.48; p=0.003) and BMI (OR 2.28; IC 95% 1.08-4.79; p=0.029) were found as risk factors for the development of vesicular lithiasis and choledochal lithiasis. Conclusion: In clinical practice, the sex of the patient, the presence of comorbidities and harmful habits, and BMI should be assessed to identify patients at increased risk of developing gallstones and choledochal lithiasis.
