OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and upper gastrointestinal symptoms in gastroenterology patients of the Hospital Jorge Reátegui II, July December 2018 Piura. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional, retrospective and descriptive study was carried out. Patients who consumed NSAIDs with upper digestive symptoms of the Jorge Reátegui Hospital (HJRD) were evaluated. Patients under 14 years of age, with Helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcer disease, and immunosuppressed and alcoholics were excluded. The analysis of the study was done in the statistical program SPSS-22. RESULTS: A total of 247 patients were evaluated in 6 months, taking the sample of 112 patients, 27.7% being men and 72.3% women; 50.0% are older adults. The average age is 57.2 years with a range of 17 and 95 years. The patients who consumed acetic acid derivatives are 51.6% of those who belched, 40.2% consumed sodium Naproxen; 30.4% consumed naproxen sodium combined with other NSAIDs, 15.2% consumed acetylsalicylic acid. Patients with rheumatologic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, radiculopathy, gonarthrosis, coxarthrosis, gout, among others) represent 45.5%. and with cardiovascular diseases (AHT, atherosclerosis, aortic disease, AMI) represent 24.1%. The pain in epigastrium, nausea and vomiting predominate more by the use of NSAIDs. CONCLUSIONS: High digestive symptoms (pain in epigastrium, nausea and vomiting) are associated with frequent use of NSAIDs (Naproxen Sodium) in the HJRD, with older adults with rheumatic diseases having a higher incidence.
