To determine if hyperglycemia on hospital admission is a factor associated with mortality in patients with COVID-19 at the ""Virgen de la Puerta"" High Complexity Hospital - Trujillo, May - August 2020. Material and method: A retrospective case-control analytical study was carried out, where 200 patients hospitalized for covid-19 were included, respecting the selection criteria, which were grouped into deceased and non-deceased patients during their hospital stay. Chi square and odds ratio statistics were calculated. Results: The results regarding hyperglycemia showed that 75% of the deceased patients had hyperglycemia, compared to 50% of the patients who did not die. The difference was statistically significant (p=0.004). The glucose levels upon admission in the deceased patients had a median of 178.5 mg/dl, while the non-deceased patients had a median of 140.5 mg/dl. This difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusions: Hyperglycemia at hospital admission is a factor associated with the mortality of patients hospitalized for Covid-19.
