Objective: Compare the validity predicts the scores AIMS65 and Glasgow-Blatchford in the need for blood transfusion in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Material and Methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective study of diagnostic tests was conducted. The study population consisted of patients ≥18 years old obtained from the clinical records of the emergency service of the Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital, between January 2014 and December 2017. We calculated the sensitivity, specificity, VPP and VPN, as well as the AUROC curve for both scores in order to assess effectiveness. Results: The study enrolled 102 patients with diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The average age was 65.92 ± 12.05 years and 54.9% were women. The AIMS65 score with a cut-off point ≥3 points had sensitivity, specificity, VPP and VPN of 23.08%, 91.89%, 83.30%, 40.50% respectively against the Glasgow-Blatchford score with a cut-off point ≥9 points obtained a sensitivity , specificity, VPP, VPN of 87.69%, 62.16%, 80.28%, 74.19% respectively to predict need for blood transfusion. The calculation of the AUROC for the score AIMS65 score was 0.586 against the Glasgow-Blatchford score, which was 0.841. Conclusion: The Glasgow-Blatchford score showed greater predictive power to predict the need for transfusion blood in-patient with upper gastrointestinal bleeding against the score AIMS65.
