INTRODUCTION: Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an acute autoimmune disease that occurs as a consequence of a previous infection bacterial, viral or after the application of a vaccine. It occurs most often in adults and in the male gender. It is rare to occur after an Enterovirus infection. CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 67-year-old woman who was admitted to the emergency service due to associated pain in all limbs and descending muscle weakness. It was complicated by respiratory dysfunction and she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) where she received mechanical ventilation. Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) revealed positivity for Enterovirus. She received five doses of intravenous human immunoglobulin G as treatment, showing slow improvement. CONCLUSION: Guillain-Barré syndrome can present clinically in a descending form. Furthermore, it can be associated with an enterovirus infection.
