Cholecystectomy can increase the risk of bile reflux into the stomach and bile acids have the potential to cause mutations, which can lead to metaplasia and dysplasia to the development of gastric carcinoma. Objective: Demonstrate the association between gastric intestinal metaplasia at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray hospital in Trujillo Material and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out in 121 adult patients, depending on the presence or absence of gastric intestinal metaplasia and bivariate and multivariate analysis was used. Results: The frequency of gastric intestinal metaplasia in patients with cholecystectomy was 92%; The frequency of gastric intestinal metaplasia in patients without cholecystectomy was 51%. There was an association between cholecystectomy and the development of gastric intestinal metaplasia (PR:10.8, p<0.05) Conclusion: Cholecystectomy is associated with the development of gastric intestinal metaplasia at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray hospital in Trujillo. In the multivariate analysis, H. pylori infection was statistically related to the presentation of intestinal metaplasia. Other factors, such as age and sex, were not associated with intestinal metaplasia
