To determine if the type of dialysis is a risk factor for malnutrition in patients with chronic kidney disease. Material and methods: Analytical, observational and retrospective cohort study design. It included 136 patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) at the “Víctor Lazarte Echegaray” Hospital. Each patient underwent an interview to assess malnutrition with the Dialysis Malnutrition Score. Results: 89 HD patients and 47 PD patients were included. The median age of patients on hemodialysis was 62 years (IQR: 50-71) and on peritoneal dialysis 56 years (IQR: 42-66) (p=0.019). 94 malnourished patients were found, of which 65 (73.0%) were on HD and 29 (61.7%) on PD. The RR of malnutrition in HD patients in relation to PD patients was 1.420 (95% CI 0.863-2.338). The RR of malnutrition in patients ≥ 60 years was 2.585 (95% CI 1.475-4.528), the RR in unemployed patients was 1.540 (95% CI 1.141-2.079) and the RR in patients with inability to perform activities was 3.394 (95% CI 1.816-6.343). Conclusion: The type of dialysis is not a risk factor for malnutrition. Malnutrition was present in 73% of HD patients and 61.7% in PD. Factors related to malnutrition on dialysis were age over 65 years, not having a job, and inability to perform activities
