To evaluate whether the perception of poor quality of medical care is associated with self-medication. Methodology: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in patients who attended the outpatient clinic of the Centro de Especialidades Médicas Florencia de Mora during the months of May-July 2021. A minimum sample size of 164 patients was calculated. General characteristics, perception of quality of care, and self-medication were evaluated. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the results, where frequencies and percentages were used; and analytical statistics, in which the OR was calculated, the chi-square test, Student's t test or Chi-square independence criteria test was applied, in order to respond to the objectives of the study. Results: Women represented 60% of the patients, slightly more than half of them had higher education, 4 out of 10 had an occupation called ““dependent““, 4 out of 10 had EsSalud insurance, 3 out of 4 had a monthly income higher than S/.930. Patients who perceived the quality of medical care received as poor were associated with a higher occurrence of self-medication than those who perceived a good quality of care. Conclusion: The perception of poor quality of medical care was found associated with self-medication, in patients who attend outpatient consultation.
