Objective: To analyze whether the amplitude of erythrocyte distribution is a predictor of mortalit y due to neonatal sepsis in preterm infants. Material and methods: A retrospective sect ional study of diagnost ic tests was carried out, which included 196 preterm birth record sheets, according to select ion criteria which were divided into 2 groups: deceased and survivors; calculat ing the area under the curve for this analyt ical marker .. Results: The average weight and gestational age were significant ly lower in the group of premature infants with deceased neonatal sepsis than in the survivors and the average C-reactive protein was significant ly higher in the group of premature infants with deceased neonatal sepsis than in those survivors The sensit ivit y and specificit y of the amplitude of erythrocyte distribution as a predictor of death in preterm infants with neonatal sepsis was 84% and 87% respectively. The posit ive and negative predict ive value of the erythrocyte distribution range as a predictor of death in preterm infants wit h neonatal sepsis was 55% and 97% respectively. The prognostic accuracy of the width of erythrocyte distribution as a predictor of death in preterm infants with neonatal sepsis was 74% and its best cutoff corresponds to 15%.
