Sullana II-2.
Objective: To determine if age, sex, self-medication, leukocytosis, abdominal ultrasound, disease time, incomplete history, place of origin, health personnel who evaluated the patient for the first time, chronic malnutrition are risk factors for acute appendicitis complicated in the pediatric population of the Sullana II-2 Support Hospital. Material and methods: A analytical, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out in which 137 record sheets of children with acute appendicitis were included, according to selection criteria which were divided into 2 groups: patients with or without complications; applying the odds ratio, and the chi-square statistical test. Results: In the bivariate analysis, the risk factors for complicated acute appendicitis in the pediatric population were self-medication and leukocytosis (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, the risk factors for complicated acute appendicitis in the pediatric population were selfmedication and leukocytosis (p <0.05). In the prediction model for complicated acute appendicitis in the pediatric population, self-medication and leukocytosis with coefficients of 0.98 and 1.98 respectively (p <0.05) are included. Conclusion: Self-medication and leukocytosis are risk factors for complicated acute appendicitis in the pediatric population of Sullana II-2 Support Hospital.
