Introduction: Despite the increase in the reception of six to more prenatal care consultations that are provided by qualified health professionals, has been little investigated about the reception of the rest of the prenatal care characteristics standardized in the “Health Technical Guideline for Comprehensive Maternal Health Care”. Objective: To analyse the sociodemographic factors associated with optimal prenatal care in Peruvian women who participated in the 2019 Demographic and Family Health Survey. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional and analytical study. Secondary data analysis. Results: 16,238 women who had a delivery in the five years prior to the survey were included. 39.88% had optimal prenatal care. Living in the mountains (RPa 0.86; 95% CI 0.82-0.90) and living in a rural area (RPa 0.91; 95% CI 0.86-0.97) were associated with a lower optimal prenatal care ratio. Living in the jungle (RPa 1.22; 95% CI 1.17-1.28), being affiliated with the public health insurance (RPa 1.19; 95% CI 1.14-1.25), having a medium wealth index (RPa 1.16; 95% CI 1.09-1.25), have completed secondary education (RPa 1.16; 95% CI 1.10-1.23), have a poor wealth index (RPa 1.15; 95% CI 1.08-1.22), having a rich wealth index (RPa 1.13; 95% CI 1.05-1.23), have completed higher education level (RPa 1, 13; 95% CI 1.07-1.21) and having a partner (RPa 1.06; 95% CI 1.01-1.11) were associated with a higher optimal prenatal care ratio. Conclusions: There are sociodemographic factors associated with greater or lesser probabilities of optimal prenatal care.
