To determine if the “crazy paving” tomographic pattern is a prognostic factor for mortality in patients with COVID-19. Material and methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out, consisting of 62 patients after a simple random selection and having applied the inclusion and exclusion criteria to all patients who were hospitalized for COVID-19 at the “Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta” between May 2020-May 2021. The distribution of the exposed group (with crazy paving pattern) and unexposed group (without crazy paving pattern) was based on the reports of the initial thoracic tomography of each of the patients. Results: The frequency of mortality in patients with COVID 19 with and without crazy paving tomographic pattern was 38.7% and 12.9%, respectively. The relative risk of the ““crazy paving““ tomographic pattern as a prognostic factor for mortality in patients with COVID 19 was 3.00 (95% CI: 1.09 – 8.29, p = 0.0202). Conclusions: The presence of the crazy paving tomographic pattern is a prognostic factor for mortality in patients with COVID 19 at the “Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta““, Trujillo.
