To determine whether gestational age, birth weight, the use of mechanical ventilation, the non-use of prenatal corticotherapy, the persistence of ductus arteriosus, sepsis and fluid overload are risk factors in the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in premature Material and methods: Analytical, retrospective, observational, cross-sectional and case-control study in which the association of risk factors and the presence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia is studied by comparing two groups of patients: 25 preterm infants (preterm <37 weeks) with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and 25 neonates premature (preterm <37 weeks) presenting Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia. The Odss Ratio was calculated and the Chi-square test was applied to define its condition as a risk factor. Results and Conclusions: The average gestational age in the study sample is 30.4 weeks if they have BPD, compared to 32.8 weeks that do not present it. The average weight in grams at birth is 1696 gr. In patients who do have BPD, compared to 1884 who do not have it. The need for mechanical ventilation, the use of corticosteroids, sepsis constitute a risk factor associated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants (p <0.01). However, the presence of persistent ductus arteriosus and fluid overload is not a risk factor associated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm neonates (p> 0.05).
