No
Introduction: Asthma and atrial fibrillation are pathologies whose morbidity and mortality are high. Both share as a mechanism, the elevation of inflammatory markers. There is controversial evidence about whether asthma is a factor with a statistically significant association with atrial fibrillation. Objective: Determine if bronchial asthma is afactor associated with atrial fibrillation in the Victor Lazarte Echegaray hospital. Materials and methods: An analytical, retrospective, case-control study was carried out, which includes 318 patients (106 cases and 212 controls) from the internal medicine service of the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital in Trujillo between the dates of July 2019 and July 2023. Results: It was evident that 12.3% of patients with atrial fibrillation presented asthma, while 87.7% of these patients did not present asthma. There was no statistically significant association between asthma and atrial fibrillation in the multivariate analysis (p value =0.076). On the other hand, type 2 diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension presented a statistically significant association with adjusted Odds Ratios of 2.45 [95% CI of 1.49 - 4.02] and 2.64 [95% CI of 1.59 - 4.38], respectively. Conclusions: In the present study we can conclude that asthma is not a statistically significant associated factor for atrial fibrillation. Type 2 diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension are significantly associated with atrial fibrillation
